I have a few thoughts about the recent discussion of blogger tourney chat politeness, or the lack thereof. I’m not in the mood to do much typing though, so let me summarize my thoughts with colorful pictures for you.

Apparently, there are a few people who think we should act like this, Exhibit A…

But most bloggers think they play and act more like this, Exhibit B…

The truth is, there’s alot of people that play and act like this, Exhibit C…

So when the players who think they are Exhibit B, but are usually closer to Exhibit C, lose a pot to another player that they feel is definitely an Exhibit C, they get mad. Sometimes they turn into this… Exhibit D…

Exhibit D thinks he’s picked on, but he’s really not. It’s just that he’s not able do take the same crap that he’s dished out over the years. He thinks he’s a big target, but the truth is, he’s worked hard to make himself a big target. Funny thing is, that’s his plan all along, and it’s actually worked to a (very) small degree.

Bottom line… If chat bothers you, turn it off. I’ve gone off on occasion in the chat box, but I’ve learned that it’s not worth it. You’re gonna lose hands to bad players making bad plays, and even to good players who make bad plays, at this point, there’s no reason to get too worked up about it.

I really shouldn’t be telling you all about this tool, but it is pretty cool. In fact, I like the product so much, I’ve decided to become an affiliate of theirs.

I’ve discovered that Tourmanent Indicator is a great little tool that can really be useful in the world of MTT’s and SnG’s. I’ve dabbled with a few other tools, but Tournament Indicator really fit my needs.

It calculates win odds and pot odds. But chances are most of you don’t really need a tool to tell you that information.

The part I like best is the player information view. Basically what this does is give you a snapshot of what’s been happening at your table. I could go into details here, but let me just present a screenshot to give you an idea of what I’m talking about.

Here’s a closer look at the statistics portion of the window.

Your mileage may vary with Tournament Indicator, depending on how much you value statistics such as VPIP and PFR%. I don’t rely exclusively on any one set of statistics when it comes to decision making, but I do take these numbers into consideration.

It’s nice to see all of this information presented in a nice compact view that I can easily glance at and see who is been playing tight or loose. Like I said, your mileage may vary, but it’s not a bad idea to have this information easily available to you. It’s also nice to have your hole cards displayed even after you fold, so you can kick yourself for folding that flopped straight.

The M calculation is nice as well, so you can see everyone’s M without having to perform any calculations in your head on the fly.

It keeps all data stored in a database (contained completely within the program, no 3rd party database needed) if you want to keep histories of players, but I usually like to use it for current tournament data. I’ll fire it up on my table, and then open any number of tables in the tournament and attach a Tournament Indicator window to those tourney tables as well (although I think only ten instances of the program can run at a time though).

This way, when I change tables, or new people are moved to my table, I can instantly get a feel for how they’ve been playing throughout the current tournament.

I think I’m gonna swear off the home game that I normally attend.  It’s the same game that Buddy talks about once in a while.  I’m sick of it.  I can handle the donkey play just fine, but it’s the constant idiotic chatter about the plays that annoys me.  OK, the donkey play has a lot to do with it.  Bottom line is…it’s just a lame tourney set up with blinds that are quicker than a turbo on Stars.  I’m done.

My new home game is with the bloggers.  I know a lot of you, but have personally met none of you.  IM chat is nice, if you want to learn how someone can type, but I’m itching to meet you guys in person.  We’ll see what we can do about that the rest of the year.

I don’t play cash games often, but I’m proud to say that I managed to more than double my buy-in in the blogger cash game that took place after/during the Mookie, as I also like to play other types of games on my console, and I also got a big TV for this purpose, and you can get a free quote for atlanta home theater installation if you want this installation for gaming too.  I used to consider myself a cash game donkey, but I’ve been retrained.  I can hold my own…at lower limits mind you… with the rest of you donks.

Smokkee still thinks I’m a huge fish, but that’s OK.  By the way, is it me, or does he have the biggest cranium you’ve ever seen.  I’ve yet to meet Ray in person, but man, that is one huge skull.

Mrs. Numb, and Numb Jr. will be returning home today, a couple of days ahead of schedule, so the party is over.

By party, I mean the “not making of the bed”, the “eating whatever, and whenever I want”, and “leaving the lid up”.

Of course, I’m joking, it’s gonna be nice…GREAT… to see them again.

My first stint at hosting BuddyDank Radio went fine I think.  I don’t know why you guys kiss his ass so much, it’s really not that hard of a gig.  Apparently not hosting the show does wonders for Buddy’s game.  He final tabled the MATH last night, and played solid poker throughout the tourney.

Mr. Numb is back at home, and ready to gamble.  The Mrs. and Jr. are on the road for most of the week.  Grandpa is NOT dead, he’s a fighter.

Mrs. Numb’s grandfather is doing a little bit better.  He’s lucky that he was already in the hospital for pneumonia when the heart attack happened.

He had surgery yesterday to put catheters in.  That’s about all I know about that.  I imagine they’re somewhere around/in his heart.  What I do know is that they think it will extend his time long enough for all relatives to come into town and see him, and say the appropriate things and (this is just sickening to even type) their goodbyes.

Pretty much everyone should be here by the end of today.  What happens from this point forward is out of our control.

The three and a half hour drive last night actually went a lot quicker than I thought it would.  Dubuque, Iowa is a lovely river town tucked away on the banks of the Mississippi River.  Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be seeing much of it this trip.  I’ve pretty much become the go-to-guy for kid watching.  In addition to my one and a half year old, I’ve pretty much been in charge of my niece (six years old) and nephew (two and half years old).  I also have a nephew who’s four months old, but I lack the necessary mammary glands to satisfy his food needs, so his mother is taking care of him for the most part.

I haven’t left the hotel today.  And have barely seen my wife, as she’s been at the hospital with most of the other adults the whole day.

Congrats to Lucko for winning The Mookie last night.  And congrats to Lightning36 for making a valiant effort to stop his aggro-luckbox methods.  I managed to log in to watch the final 20-30 minutes or so of the heads-up battle.

This afternoon, Mrs. Numb received a phone call that her grandfather has suffered a major heartattack, and probably doesn’t have more than a day or two left on this earth.

So right now, we are rushing around, packing things up, and hitting the road asap.

Good luck to all in the Mookie tonight.  I hate to miss a Mookie, especially for this reason.

I’m not sure why I haven’t really pimped this much before. But I feel the need to give The Bodog Blogger Tournament Series a little love.

With so much overlay, and a World Series Main Event seat thrown at us, I really don’t see any reason why a normal button-mashing poker blogger shouldn’t be playing this.

You don’t even have to win a tournament to qualify for a chance to win a Main Event Package, just finish in the top 18 on the leaderboard, and you’re in the Final Tournament.

In addition to that, the top five finishers in each event will get an added T$109 on top of their usual payout.

Even if you don’t finish in the money, the next five finishers in each tourney will get their $11 buyin back.

So if you’re keeping count, that’s an extra $600 per week that Bodog is throwing at us, in addition to a Main Event Prize Package.

As if that weren’t enough, Bodog is also giving away an added $1298 in tourney money to the top finishers in the final tournament.

This brings the total overlay that Bodog is putting up to just over $25,000. Not bad for eighteen $11 tournaments.

The Bodog Poker Blogger Tournament Series is composed of a series of 18 qualifying tournaments that run weekly from Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 to Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008.

The top 30% of finishers in each qualifying tournament will earn points based on their finish. These points will be used to rank players over 4 months of qualifying.

At the end of the qualifying series, the top 18 players on the Tournament Leader Board will play in the Final Tournament on Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 with the first place finisher winning a $12,000 WSOP prize package!

I just happened to be checking the results of the Iron Man Bronze Freeroll (no, I did not participate), and BAMMMM!!! …the winner’s name jumps off the screen at me. Fellow blogger, JD Schellnutt took it down, beating 1,373 other freeroll donkeys for a cool $1100+.
