Always a groomsmen, never this…

Poker 1 Comment »

Been a while, Dookie leaderboard update is on the way for you junkies.

I’ve been asked to give away a bride at a wedding.  I never thought in my lifetime that I’d ever perform this task, but here we are.

I will be walking the ever-so-lovely Joanada down the isle before she speaks the vows.

This is the coolest thing that anyone has EVER asked me to do.  Seriously, I  was completely floored when I was asked to do this.

I can’t even begin to describe how I feel about this, I’m just so happy for the two of them, and I’m so pleased that I’m going to be a part of it.

BAZINGA!!!!

Mixing it up a little bit…

I didn’t play the $5 HORSE tourney tonight, I instead opted to play the $4000 Guaranteed HORSE tourney.  I’ve jumped up to this tourney maybe 8-10 times in the past, and
I’ve never cashed, despite my mastery of the game of HORSE at the donkery levels (yep that’s a new poker term).

Well, I’d like to say that I pulled out another win, but that’s not the case.  I think I did OK though.

HORSE runner up

Much needed cash

I may not be able to pull out a TOC seat, but I’m profitable, and that’s what the bottom line is all about, right?

The Proposal

This is pretty much how I envision BuddyDank’s proposal to Joanada went down.

Time for the Redwings to collect The Stanley Cup again

Every year, when the NHL playoffs start, I find myself watching this video over and over again.  Then I get all jacked up and want to go find Claudia Lemieux and beat him up or something, or at least try.

Words cannot express the hatred that I and many other Wings fans have for the Avalanche and Lemieux.  This game had a massive backstory to it, and rest assured, at the 1:40 point of this video, he gets what he deserves.

Even if you’re not a hockey fan, this video is worth a look due to it’s impressive editing to make the video fit the lyrics to the song.

And I guarantee, when you finish watching it, your adrenaline level will be pumped up just a little bit.

LETS GO WINGS!!!

Again…

Took this thing down again, even though I don’t play it nearly as often as I should.  Seriously sick ROI on this tourney for me.

Ok, before I proceed, I’m gonna lay this out there.  I’ve omitted any U2 song from this countdown, simply because my bias is too great.  I love that band…obviously, but I can’t even try to rank anything of theirs with other songs.

I am starting to warm up to the new U2 album, it’s not that bad…but it’s definitely not their best work.  Moving on…

Here we are at Number 8.  No, there’s not a piano riff in this song, but it’s a great one nonetheless.

Number 8

Bittersweet Symphony – The Verve

You want a grand song, with a sweeping melody, and a tremendous hook?  Here it is.  Much has been written about the legal troubles with this one. The Andrew Oldham Orchestra claims that The Verve used a little too much of the originally negotiated portion of their recording of The Rolling Stones  song “The Last Time”.  It was a thin claim, but it held up, and eventually the songwriting credits went to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, in what was one of the most ridiculous copyright cases this planet has ever seen.

Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft commented, "This is the best song Jagger and Richards have written in 20 years."……which was true.

Despite this, rest assured, this is not any type of ripoff ala Vanilla Ice.  The song stands up, and will for a long time.

The official video follows, which is pretty decent actually.

And now for your bonus coverage.

I love this version from Live 8, give me Coldplay backing up this song, and it’s gold Jerry, pure gold.

Of course, any great song always translates well when stripped down.

And here’s the song these days, performed by the newly reunited band.  Another great performance.

Up until about five years ago, I’d always associated Bob Geldof with two things.  He was the guy who organized Live Aid, and the guy that took Michael Hutchence’s wife.  Then I (re)discovered the gem of a song that takes the number nine spot on this countdown.

Number 9

I Don’t Like Mondays – The Boomtown Rats

Even though this song was much more popular in The UK that it was in The States, it’s inspiration is from an tragic incident in San Diego, California, which you can read more about here.

As mentioned previously, I love me a good piano riff in a song, and this song is no slouch in that department, and one can’t help but to join in on the chorus, which is catchy as hell.

All in all, it’s just a terrific song, and worthy of coming in at number 9 on the NumbBlowMe List of Awesome Tunes.

I don’t have much more to say on this one, so enjoy the original cheesy video…

Or take in the version performed at the Live 8 concert in 2005, which is absolutely gorgeous.

And for your bonus coverage, enjoy a live version with Bon Jovi.

I’ve been a bad blogger.  I’ve done nothing but post screen shots and brags for a while now.  It’s time to expand.  My friends, you are now getting a list of the top 10 songs of all time.  You may disagree, I don’t care though, it’s my list, and you can shove it up your ass if you don’t like it…make your own list.

Here’s the first entry.

Number 10

Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen

It’s tough picking through the legacy that this band has left us.  And there’s no guarantee that they won’t appear again on this list, but this one will be tough to top.  As a piano player, I’m a sucker for songs with a great piano riff in it, and this one has a great one.  In fact, of all songs I love with a great piano riff, this it the only one that I haven’t nailed down by ear.

I’ve heard people call this a terrible driving song…whatever…you can put this song on my crappy car stereo any day.

Queen was remarkably underappreciated in The States, but achieved God-Like status in their homeland.  The Brits were correct.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was amazing, but that’s not the topic here…

Just enjoy…

And for bonus coverage, here’s a cover of the song, which is pretty good as well.
