Winning the MATH

Poker 4 Comments »

So I’m sitting around the house Monday night, nearly falling asleep to some classic football game on NFL network, and I look up at the clock, and it’s 8:55.  WTF, let’s go play the MATH.

Numb Jr. was in bed, and Mrs. Numb wouldn’t be back for about an hour, so why not.

Granted, it was a miniscule field, but a win is a win.

Under Folding for value?

Of the five games that comprise HORSE, LHE is my weakest, but even a donkey like myself wouldn’t fold to a five chip bet on the river with 1560 in the pot.

This is from the nightly $4K HORSE sometime last week.

Winning a Box-O-Wine…oh, and the Mookie as well…

With each of us having two Mookie wins under our belts, BuddyDank and I had a prop bet that whoever wins their next Mookie, owes a Box-O-Wine to the other.

A Little MSOP Bonus

So Tragedy asks if I want to play this stupid little sat with him, of course, I agree, not even knowing what the sat is for. But who cares… this is the reigning Mookie Champion asking me to play cards with him.

The result is this…

2008-06-25--12.07.14.AM

For our efforts, it was worth T$55 each.  I promptly un-registered from MSOP #46, and will be using the T$55 for much better things.

My family is sending up a few thoughts to the Big Man for Bayne and family.

This is getting ridiculous

Won last night’s $5.50 10:45pm HORSE tourney…AGAIN, for the second time in two weeks.  This is getting to the point where I’m starting to think I might know how to play this game a little bit.

I skated into the final table by playing the bubble game.  I was lucky and won, but was the short stack.  Encouragement from my watchers kept me from doing anything too stupid, and before long, I was up to a workable stack, and could actually play something other than push or fold poker.

I entered headsup play with a 4/1 disadvantage, and decided to activate my Lucko powers, and use some luckbox/aggro methods to take the whole effin’ thing down.

Thanks to Tragedy and Joanada, who I was chatting with throughout most of my run to the title, and also to Zeem, who railed for a little bit as well.

Oh, and congrats to our man Tragedy for taking down The Mookie last night.  Welcome to the club good friend.

It was a good night.

Apparently re-re-stealing with A-8 is gold.  Good luck in the Main Event LJ.  Hope you play better than you did here.

1.  Sign up for rakeback.  There are lots of trustworthy rakeback deals to be had, including full tilt rakeback and cake poker rakeback, and these can add some serious chips to high volume players’ monthly take home.

2.  Bonus whoring.  Turn bonus clearing into an art form.  Non-USA players have the best choices.  TonyG Poker Bonus and this Titan Poker Bonus are both solid bonuses with extras.  Between all the signup bonuses and reloads these days, you could bonus clear forever.

3.  For folks just getting started, you can pick up some free poker money with no deposit required at a lot of sites.  You can even get no deposit casino bonuses and play blackjack to clear a profit.

Victory

I’ve been playing the nightly $5.50 HORSE tourney at 10:45 CST on FTP for about a month now. Not every day, but whenever I was sitting there at the computer, and wasn’t too busy.

It started as a way to hone my non-NLHE skills. Granted, a $5 tourney doesn’t exactly draw the best competition, but it’s still a fun little tourney, and a cheap way to get some tourney experience in O8, Razz, Stud, and Stud8

I’ve final tabled this thing a few times, and my highest finish was third place a few weeks ago. I once jokingly said to Donkette, who has joined me in this tournament on occasion, “I’m gonna play this thing until I win it.”

Well, I guess I can’t play this one anymore.
