$26,000 guarantee

NumbBono | Poker | Saturday, June 30th, 2007

This hand happened last night in the $26,000 guarantee. I’m making an effort to play more MTT tourneys and do well. Do I play this differently? djshadyj had been playing hyper-agressive poker, and this bullshit happens on top of that. What’s a guy to do?

Prop Bets are fun - Gigli is not

NumbBono | Poker | Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I was looking forward to the Mookie last night.  I needed to unwind with some BuddyDank radio, and throw some chips around.

Fortunately, I’m under no pressure to make the BBT freeroll.  I was in 41st place going into last night, but as long as I play one other event after the Mookie, I’ll make the 20 event minimum.

And thank God I didn’t need those points, because I was finished with the Mook on the second hand.

I don’t have hand histories available to me at the moment, so this is from memory.  I’ll correct later if I need to.

I’m on the button with A-10, and call a normal (maybe 3x) raise from UTG.  Normally I let this hand go, but with position, and for a cheap price, I’ll take a flop, and release if I whiff.

Flop comes A-x-x.  I think there’s a little action on the flop, but I can’t remember right now.  I think I called a pot sized bet.  Turn brings a 10, giving me top two, but putting three clubs on the board.  After a bet, I re-raise all in.

Opponent has Q-Q, with a club, and sure enough, a club comes on the river.   Shit happens.

Missed on a $75 token when some donkey calls my A-K with A-8 with about 15 spots to the tokens.  K and 8 on the flop, but guess what…flush on the river beats me.

At least I won a $26 token last night.

One other interesting thing happened last night.  Playing a Tier 1 2-table SnG, I somehow got into a last-longer prop bet with an overaggressive donkey for $5.  About five hands after we agreed on the bet, he ran his 9-9 into my A-K (I had him outchipped about 2700-800), and I turned a K to win my first ever prop bet.

He made good on his bet, and promptly transferred $5 to my FTP account.  Not sure why he made the bet without even asking for odds, since his stack was so much lower than mine.

Oh, and I’m sure a few people noticed last week, but I played the Mookie, and made the points (38th of 82) without even sitting in front of a computer.  Kind of says something, doesn’t it.

Riverchasers tonight.  See you there.  And BuddyDank, I’m gonna request so much Radiohead, that you’re gonna want to seal your ears shut with a red hot poker.

I died a slow death in the 50/50

NumbBono | Poker | Friday, June 22nd, 2007

I haven’t been playing much lately, other than a few BBT events. Family life has taken over for me at the moment, and that’s fine with me. Baby Numb has been a little sick lately, and we just found out yesterday that Teen Numb will be having knee surgery.

I did manage to give the 50/50 a shot on Thursday. I like the structure of this tournament, and have been eyeballing it for a week or so, but haven’t had an opportunity to give it a shot yet.

What happened was two hours of the worst cards that can be dealt to a player.

Being card dead is fine with me, it happens, it’s part of the game, so I’m not pissed or anything. In fact, I’m somewhat amazed that I managed to finish 291st of 1028 runners with the cards I had.

122 hands were dealt to me. Here’s a little rundown.

Pocket Pairs Dealt to Me

K-K - I doubled up with it sometime around the first break

7-7 - Someone jams preflop forcing me to fold

7-7 - Raise preflop, one caller, we check down a board of Ah-9c-Kc-Ts-3c and he scoops with J-J

3-3 - Raise pre-flop, three callers, fold to oversized bet on a flop of 7h-9c-As

3-3 - With a below average stack, I call a pre-flop raise, and jam on a board of Qh-7h-Qs against a very aggressive opponent. He shows KhQc and I’m done.

So five pocket pairs (one premium) out of 122 hands. What about non-pocket pairs you may ask?

A-K - 0 times
A-Q - 0 times
A-J - 2 times
A-10 - 3 times
K-Q - 2 times

So, not much to work with here. I managed to limp my way into the top third, but lost my patience on the aforementioned 3-3 hand.

I didn’t even really have too much of a chance to get creative with suited connectors, since I was only dealt suited connectors once (5s-4s).

Congrats to Hoy and Iakaris on their deep runs in this thing.
